Seeing Auschwitz is an exhibition that incorporates 100 photographs, sketches, and testimonies of the German Nazi camp Auschwitz and the Holocaust.

Trip Iterniary

  • 11:30 am - Lunch at Mama Ricotta's (601 S Kings Dr AA, Charlotte, NC 28204)

  • 1:30 pm - Guided Tour at the VAPA Center (700 N Tryon St, Charlotte, NC 28202

Uptown Funk: Center City Walking Tour of Charlotte History, Arts, & Culture with Queen City Culture Vultures 

If you are new to the Queen City, here for a visit or something in-between, here's a fun way to learn about or get refreshed on today's Charlotte and how it came to be. Join us for a guided tour of Center City highlights - Commerce, Arts & Culture, Sports, and History.

 

We begin at Romare Bearden Park and finish at the Uptown museums. Here's a sampling:

Thu, April 18 | North Carolina

Travel Adventures:

North Carolina Fresco Bus Tour

Please join Jim Walters on a fascinating tour of Ben Long-inspired fresco paintings.

 

Trip Itinerary: 

  • 9:30 am - Meet at St. John's Baptist Church (300 Hawthorne Lane)

  • 10:00 am - Depart from St. John's Baptist Church

  • Our first stop will be Sower of the Seed at the Gordon Cornwell Theological Seminary.

  • We will then travel to Statesville and view the controversial fresco painting by Ben Long titled Crossroads.

  • We will travel just a few blocks and have lunch at the Twisted Oak restaurant in downtown Statesville.

  • After lunch, Jim will take us to the Charlotte Police Headquarters to see a most interesting depiction of the crime our police face daily, as captured by Ben Long.

  • The final stop will be at 401 North Tryon and study Ben’s painting titled Continuum. This domed fresco has many characters you will be familiar with.

  • After the final stop, we'll then travel back to St. John's Baptist Church

Between stops, and at each stop, Jim will give you insight into Ben’s life as the paintings serve as a pictorial of Ben’s career and personal life. He will provide booklets and handouts that he will use to explain the many known and unknown elements of Ben’s art.
