Banker’s House & Earl Scruggs Museum

Our day starts with a tour of the historic Banker’s House, home of the Blanton family. The Blantons are still active in the Shelby banking community, and their home is a showcase of Queen Anne period art and furniture. After the tour, the bus will go to the Earl Scruggs Museum for a lunch catered by Bridges BBQ. Lunch will be followed by a tour of the museum and ends with a wine tasting. The museum’s seasonal special exhibit is “Country Music”, which ties in nicely with Scruggs’s history. Cost is $90 for Savvy Senior members and $109 for nonmembers. Bus leaves TPC* at 9:00 AM, returns about 5:00 PM. ACTIVITY LEVEL 3—Walking; the Banker’s House has stairs and no elevator.

9 to 5 The Musical, based on the 1980 hit movie of the same name. Pushed to the boiling point, three female coworkers concoct a plan to get even with the “sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot” they call their boss. Violet, Judy and Doralee live out their wildest fantasy - giving their boss the boot! While Hart remains “otherwise engaged,” the women give their workplace a dream makeover, taking control of the company that had always kept them down. Before the show, enjoy a Southern-Style dinner buffet. The bus leaves TPC* at 11:00 AM and returns about 6:30 PM. Cost is $90 for Savvy Senior members and $99 for non-members, and is all-inclusive.

The “On the Go” Travel Adventures Program offers interesting local outings for a small group. This program is for those who like carpooling to nearby destinations. Volunteers lead the trips and coordinate the details. To reserve your spot, send your payment to the Shepherd’s Center. Be prepared to chip in for parking fees. An administrative fee is included in the price. Restaurant meals are always additional.
Wednesday, January 15. Sea Life Aquarium at Concord Mills
See stingrays, reef sharks, Neptune (a rescued sea turtle) and thousands of other sea creatures. Our trip includes the “Behind the Scenes” tour to see how the team looks after the creatures. After the tour, enjoy lunch following at Sticky Fingers. Cost is $22.00. Meet at TPC* at 10:00 AM, return about 3:00 PM.
Thursday, March 12: Charlotte Ballet Dress Rehearsal—”Sleeping Beauty” One of the world’s most popular classical ballets, tailored to engage today’s audiences by acclaimed British choreographer Matthew Hart. Artistic Director Hope Muir returns to the stage as Narrator in this condensed version that stays true to its beloved, classical choreography— complete with glittering tutus and dazzling tiaras. Set to Tchaikovsky’s quintessential score, this gorgeous tale of Princess Aurora, the Lilac Fairy, and the royal court is perfect for the entire family. Meet at TPC at 12:00 pm for lunch at Fin and Fino, followed by the matinee at 2:00 PM. Return to TPC at 4:00 PM. Cost is $20.00.
