Rosenwald Schools, Beacons of Black Education: During the 1910s—1930s, a remarkable partnership re-made Black education in the South. Jewish philanthropist Julius Rosenwald, who had helped create Sears & Roebuck, set up a matching grant program with rural communities that constructed over 5,000 schools. Historian Tom Hanchett will discuss that history in the Charlotte area and then show a new film, “The Rosenwald Schools of North Carolina."
