Our Sincere Appreciation - Volunteer Traditions
The Shepherd’s Center of Charlotte thanks our outstanding volunteers and supporters. It is through this support that we’ve been able to do the following:
Our 357 volunteers drove seniors to their medical appointments more than 360 times; delivered hot meals daily to 45 seniors; helped seniors with odd jobs around the home; taught classes at Adventures in Learning and our computer lab; served on committees; presented seminars; assisted in our office; and served on our board of directors. ♦ The Adventures in Learning Program was able to enrich the lives of 492 senior students this year through 24 General Sessions and 47 classes. ♦ This year we have served 290 computer students in 53 classes with 8 volunteer computer instructors. ♦ 497 seniors traveled with us to interesting places such as the Reynolda House, Chinqua Penn, NC Arboretum, Sarah Duke Gardens, Flat Rock Playhouse, Newberry Opera House and NC wineries. ♦ Seniors’ Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) volunteers counseled more than 232 seniors in 2011 to help them through the Medicare Maze and Prescription Part D Drug Plan.
This voluntary support is needed and appreciated; however, we also need monetary support to keep these programs vital and thriving. If you have not already done so, please show your support today by giving a year-end donation to The Shepherd’s Center of Charlotte, 3115 Providence Rd., Charlotte, NC 28211. Thank you in advance for your support & generosity.
In Memoriam
The Shepherd’s Center of Charlotte could not function without the help of our dedicated volunteers. You can imagine our surprise when we learned of Paula Wise’s passing in January. Paula taught music appreciation for many years in our Adventures in Learning Program. Her classes were always well-attended. We will certainly miss her contribution and our thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends.
